Youtube Subscriptions in Google Reader and Boxee

So I got fed up of not being able to watch my youtube subscriptions in google reader or boxee.  If you make an embed video file in the body of the text of a blog post, you can see that video in Google Reader.  Well Youtube’s feed for subscriptions http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/base/users/user/newsubscriptionvideos doesn’t include an embed.  So I did my magic and made it make an embed, I skipped yahoo pipes because, honestly it confuses me too much.  I wrote a quick something in php to take care of it.  Just hit http://webutils.bryanprice.info/YoutubeSubscriptionEmbed/?user=yourusername replacing “yourusername” with your username and you will have a feed with the embeds that you can pop into google reader.  If you want to view your subscriptions in Boxee, take an extra step of running the feed through feedburner make sure you choose the option “i’m a podcaster”.  Now add this subscription via the Boxee web interface and now you have your YouTube subscriptions in Boxee!

SageTV Rename

Many of you may remember that I wrote a script for BeyondTV (BeyondTV Renamer) that utilized a command line tool that someone had written to create an XML file giving detailed information about the given file.  My script compared the airdate from this dumped XML file with airdates of matching shows on TVRage.com to rename the files in such a way that XBMC or Boxee could read the file and get the metadata (like show description and images).

Well today I’m releasing a script that I wrote that does something similar for SageTV.  Technically speaking, it does not actually rename the file.  It creates symlinks to the files named in such a way that XBMC or Boxee can read the files and pickup the metadata.  And instead of needing the command line tool, you need the SageTV Web Interface that was written by Neilm.  By creating symlinks, it allows for only 1 true copy of the file to exist and for the show to remain in SageTV and in Boxee or XBMC.

Classroom Control System (CCS)

You may have heard about CCS in my blog post here, but here’s a brief description anyway.  CCS allows teachers to block websites and programs on student computers (both blacklists and whitelists) as well as perform other actions such as remote desktop.  The teacher software can be found here and must be setup first.  The student software can be found here and can be setup on multiple computers with the same configuration.  Please visit the official project blog here.

BTVRenamer

Okay, so here’s the dilemma: BeyondTV doesn’t organize my TV shows in a way that Boxee or XBMC can recognize my media.  So I wrote this monster of a script.  All details should be available via the readme file.  But it basically will reorganize your folder with the format “ShowName (YearStarted)\ShowName.S##E## (EpisodeName).ext”.  BTVRenamer.zip Have fun :-D

Archos 605 – Orb ASX Opener

Okay, so here’s the dilemma: My archos opens ASX files as if they were text.  You can see inside the text the url for the video.  You can manually type the long url and it will play the video.  So I wrote this bookmarklet and php file that will allow you to open up the video.  Just add this link to your archos: ASX Opener, and you’ll be good to go.  Simply click on the bookmark when you are viewing this text and your archos will be launching the video in no time :-D .

Outlook Subscriber

A Small Program that allows a person to subscribe to feeds with Outlook with non-IE based browsers. You just want to make sure you subscribe to your feed with this new program. The files are attached on this page. For coders, the cpp file has been included as well.

ModernPaper WordPress Template – The Bryan Price Edit

I have uploaded my template for the world to enjoy! Make sure you read the readme for help!

FLV to Xvid Converter (Context Menu)

You ever wanted to convert those videos you get off of youtube into a more compatible format? Well here’s your chance. First you’ll need firefox, then you’ll need some sort of extension that will download the youtube videos like download helper, and then you’ll need my program. Just download my program and follow the instructions given to you in installation.txt. The program will allow you to simply right click the flv file you want to convert, then choose sendto, then choose FLV to AVI. Then wait a few minutes, and it should be converted. Have fun. You might want to click here if you want it.
